Kingston Liberal Synagogue welcomed Sir Ed Davey, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, to its Shabbat service this week in a moment of reflection and solidarity.

The visit marked a significant connection of faith and politics, with a wide ranging discussion including refugees, racism, trans rights, ending the war in Gaza, and children with special needs.

Sir Ed was introduced to Kingston’s adopted hostage, Omri Miran, one of the many civilians still held in Gaza. He was asked for his support in calling for Omri’s safe return to his wife and two young daughters, along with the remaining hostages. The emotional plea underscored the shuls commitment to human rights and justice.

Sara AlstonKLS Deputy Chair and Safeguarding Lead said: “I am thrilled that our local MP maintains such positive relationships with the synagogue. He spoke with conviction about the challenges of promoting liberal values to a receptive congregation.”

The service also included a celebration of the 70th birthday of KLS President, Sandra Webber.
