This year’s annual joint Shabbat service of Glasgow Reform Synagogue and the Edinburgh Liberal Jewish Community took on an added significance.

It marked the first shared gathering since the historic joining of the Liberal and Reform movements into one Movement for Progressive Judaism (MPJ), a milestone that brought fresh energy and purpose to the occasion.

Led by Rabbi Mark Solomon (Edinburgh) and Rabbi Pete Tobias (Glasgow), the service welcomed around 40 members and visitors, including Rabbis Charley Baginsky and Josh Levy, the co-Leads of Progressive Judaism.

Following Kiddush, Rabbis Josh and Charley spoke about the ongoing journey toward the new movement and its future important priorities, and it struck a chord with all who were there. Participants then engaged in table discussions to explore ideas for future programming and collaboration across the communities.
