The Welshpool group, part of Birmingham Progressive Synagogue that spans mid-Wales to Shropshire, got together for a Chavurah supper led by Rabbi Lisa Barrett at the home of Cathy Landau near Telford.
They meet around five times a year (including Passover, pictured) to share in community and Jewish tradition.
The evening began with a Kabbalat Shabbat service, before dinner was served in the garden beside a beautiful year-round sukkah, creating a warm and relaxed setting. Guests shared stories of travel and past members, while enjoying delicious food and good company.
As they rose to face East in song, many felt a powerful sense of spirituality. And for some, especially those who rarely meet fellow Jews in their local areas, the gathering felt like a lift to the heart.
As attendee Deborah Phipps said: “For one who feels at times like ‘the only Jew in the village’, it was a real tonic for the soul.”
