The young people on their Kivunim journey enjoyed an unforgettable weekend filled with learning, adventure and community spirit. It was a residential that blended the joy of Shabbat, exciting outdoor challenges, and meaningful discussions on Jewish identity, leaving everyone with memories for a lifetime.
Kivunim is a nationwide B’nei Mitzvah programme designed for young Progressive Jews from small and medium-sized Reform and Liberal communities. It provides a two-year journey for students in Years 7 and 8, helping them explore their Jewish identity, ritual, and social action through residential weekends, challenges, and activities.
From creative services to high ropes courses and even speeding across a zip wire, the weekend was filled with moments of friendship and personal growth. As night fell, the group gathered around a campfire for Havdalah, and a one hour session (peulot) discussing Tikkun Olam, the Jewish value of repairing the world. It was all designed to reinforce the importance of making a positive impact on the world.
For some, it marked the final stretch of their Kivunim journey, bringing a sense of achievement and excitement for the future. Among the feedback received, one parent said: “My child learned during the weekend how to socialise and feel comfortable being Jewish.”
Meanwhile, another expressed their enthusiasm for upcoming adventures: “Max had absolutely loved the course and would like to be there for the celebratory Alton Towers trip!”
As Kivunim plans the next phase of its journey, one thing is clear — it’s continuing to shape the leaders of tomorrow, guiding them toward a brighter, and hopefully more peaceful future.
