SLLS members visit the LJS

Members of the South London Liberal Synagogue (SLLS) made the journey across the capital on the first morning of Sukkot this year.

Rabbi Nathan Godleman was joined by Chair, Eve Samson, and Liberal Judaism Vice President, Baroness Gillian Merron, who is also a member of the Lincolnshire Jewish Community, for a service at The Liberal Jewish Synagogue (LJS) – uniting the two oldest constituents of the Liberal Movement.

Rabbi Nathan remarked: “It’s always interesting to see how other synagogues do things, and the LJS made us feel very welcome – to the point that I returned the following week for Simchat Torah with one of our Ba’alei Tefillah.”

The morning was an opportunity for all SLLS members to visit other synagogues of their choice, from across the spectrum, either online or in person. SLLS had held its Sukkot service the evening before, with a sukkah built upon the chuppah frame on the bimah.

Rabbi Nathan added: “Having the sukkah inside our sanctuary works well for a community with very little outdoor space and a relaxed attitude towards halacha!”
