AJEX (The Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women) is calling on Jewish communities across the UK to ensure a visible presence at local Remembrance Sunday ceremonies on 9 November.
With events due to take place nationwide, one way to honour the thousands of Jewish men and women from the UK and Commonwealth – who served in the defence of freedom during both World Wars and subsequent conflicts – is to lay a Star of David poppy wreath, available from AJEX HQ, the British Legion or the Haig Poppy Factory.
AJEX Archivist Martin Sugarman said: “In these dark days, AJEX is appealing for local Jewish communities to ensure there is a Jewish presence up and down the country on Remembrance Sunday. It will help remind the general public just how much UK and Commonwealth Jewish men and women contributed to the defence of the country. We want to stand together with pride, dignity, and gratitude and lay Star of David poppy wreaths.”
Plans are already in place for Hackney, Islington and Haringey in London, and the goal is to build momentum and cover as many areas in the UK as possible.
