We are looking to recruit a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Jewish Joint Burial Society (JJBS). The CEO is a new role which the Trustees have created given the growth of the operations and the possibilities of further changes in the near future.

The CEO will ensure the smooth, effective and efficient operation of JJBS, and the implementing of the Board’s policies and decisions. This role requires an individual that is driven, organised and persistent with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to make objective decisions and judgements relating to all aspects of JJBS.

Specific skills and experience that will be required is as follows:

  • Previous experience of a senior management role in a small organisation including managing people, operations and property whilst also being prepared to be hands-on is essential.  Experience of this in the Jewish community or in the not-for-profit sector would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience of cemetery operations and the specific customs and practice of Jewish funerals would be advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant laws and regulations involved in running a business including employment, financial and charity.
  • Fundamental understanding of financial matters, including budgets and management accounts.
  • Track record of applying commercial acumen to the delivery of services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with a wide range of people; motivating them and navigating through change to inspire trust and confidence.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively with mourners, including in relation to complaints at times of stress and emotion.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships and networks of contacts within the Charity.
  • Ability to make objective decisions and judgements relating to HR, IT, finance and risk.
  • Strong IT skills such as Office 365 is essential.
