The Jews of Britain – A Thousand Years of History
by Pamela Fletcher Jones
This history of the Jews of Britain is the first full history on the subject to be written for nearly fifty years.
The book traces the fascinating and turbulent history of Britain’s Jewish community from Roman times to the present day, through more than 200 years of medieval settlement, including some 350 years when officially there were no Jews in Britain and the great Resettlement which started, with the help of Oliver Cromwell in the 1650s.
Supported by varied illustrations, it will look at the Jews’ place in Britain’s social history and also probe deeply into the way of life and the changes and development inside Britain’s Jewish community up to and including the twentieth century.
