A Message from Steve
Miller,
Chair of the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY JEWISH COALITION
At Sukkot we are reminded, amongst other things, of our
dependence on the natural world for all that we eat and
consume. While most of us spend the rest of the year in
secure houses, our week in the Sukkah also reminds us
that there are many millions of people living in extreme
poverty. Their lives are dependant, not just on the vagaries
of the natural world, but also on the actions of other
people including ourselves.
We can make a difference to their lives. We make a difference
by supporting charities, by buying fairtrade produce and
by playing a part in influencing decision-makers.
This year our Sukkot education pack helps you to make
a link with those people living in poverty by inviting
them - in a 'virtual' way - to your Sukkah, by learning
and thinking about their lives, and by taking one or more
of the other actions suggested. We hope that it will be
a useful resource whether you are a family at home, a
teacher or youth worker, a Rabbi or synagogue leader ...
or in any other communal setting.
If you have received the pack in hard copy please feel
free to make more copies for friends and colleagues. It
may be downloaded via the direct link:

Have a joyful Sukkot and please take the time to share
some of that joy with others.
