Liberal Judaism - Rabbi Mark Solomon

Rabbi Mark Solomon

The Liberal Jewish Synagogue

I was born and educated in Australia, and have a BA (Hons.) in English Literature from the University of Sydney.

My rabbinical training began at Lubavitcher yeshivot in Melbourne and Israel, and I received ordination from Jews' College, London, in 1991.

After serving as minister of Watford United Synagogue, I became Rabbi of West Central Liberal Synagogue in 1992, and was appointed Rabbi at the LJS in 2000.

I have been a lecturer in Talmud and other rabbinic texts at Leo Baeck College since 1991, and received an MA in Jewish philosophy there in 1998. A special interest of mine is interfaith dialogue, especially with Christians and Muslims. I’m a governor of the Ammerdown retreat centre in Somerset, Co-Chair of the London Society of Jews and Christians, a trustee of the London Ecumenical AIDS Trust and the Interfaith Alliance and a board member of the Council of Christians and Jews.

Another special interest is singing, and I use my cantorial training both in synagogue services and occasional concerts.
