The first Jewish marriage in Lincoln for 700 years was conducted
at Jews’ Court on Steep Hill. The last Jewish wedding service
was held in the 13th Century before the Jewish community was
expelled from the city and subsequently England as a whole.
Mr and Mrs Bernie and Dianne Adler were married by Rabbi Amanda
Golby following Dianne’s recent conversion to Liberal Judaism.
In attendance was the Bishop of Lincoln, the Reverend John Saxbee,
along with a congregation of relatives and friends of various
religions. Dianne Adler said: “It is wonderful to celebrate
our wedding with a co-joined service and to enjoy so many good
wishes.” Bernie Adler adds: “I feel very privileged to marry
in this wonderful building surrounded by so much good feeling.”
He has been involved in the congregation since it was set up
at Jews’ Court in 1992. Notes: Photos available on request.
