ULPSNYC- Netzer, the youth movement of Liberal Judaism, has
launched an exciting new initiative designed to strengthen the
link between Progressive communities in Israel and the UK. ULPSNYC-Netzer
is the only movement to run this type of exchange programme
in Britain prior to its Israel Tour.
Mifgash (encounter) is an exchange program involving Year
11 students in Britain and Israel. Israeli teenagers from the
Leo Baeck Centre in Haifa will be coming to London for eight
days over Pesach. Their time will be divided in two, the first
part spent enjoying an ULPSNYC-Netzer four day residential event
in London giving them the opportunity to meet their British
counterparts, explore their personal connection with Liberal
Judaism and experience a British Zionist Youth Movement. The
second part of the trip will be spent with their host families,
giving an opportunity to experience Jewish life in Britain.
The group will visit popular tourist sites in the capital including
a trip around the East End of London. This will enable them
to discover more about the history of Diaspora Jewry at the
turn of the 20th century.
There will be a return visit in the summer as part of ULPSNYC-Netzer’s
2004 Israel Tour during which the British teenagers will spend
time with Israeli families. This will give them a real taste
of Israeli society and culture. The visit is an integral part
of ULPSNYC-Netzer’s Israel Tour and will help to further
Liberal Judaism’s commitment to Progressive Judaism in
Israel. ULPSNYC-Netzer is delighted to be taking this practical
step towards furthering links with Israel.
