Rabbi Rich responds to Baroness Warsi

Liberal Judaism’s Chief Executive, Rabbi Danny Rich, responded today to the article in the Telegraph by Baroness Warsi, in which she claimed that ‘militant secularisation is taking hold of our societies.’

“Whilst I agree that faith has a ‘deep and intrinsic role in Britain’ and has much to contribute to modern society, I nevertheless ultimately favour a separation of church and state. It is the state’s role to treat every person equally without fear or favour and, whilst religious voices should contribute to the public discourse, there is a justifiable fear that when religious leaders are given power rather than merely influence, an unacceptable situation like Israel or Iran follows.”
