| Synagogues launch Holocaust Memorial event |

Uxbridge Gazette SCHOOLCHILDREN from across the borough and beyond paid their respects to Holocaust victims at an event hosted by Northwood's synagogues. More than 30 schools signed up to take part in four days worth of Holocaust Memorial sessions Among them were Bishop Ramsey, Douay Martyrs, Guru Nanak, Harefield Acedemy, Northwood College and St Helen's School. The Mayors of Hillingdon and Harrow, as well as dignitaries from Hertfordshire, joined some of the children for the launch on Monday at Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue (NPLS), Oaklands Gate. Crowds at Northwood The annual HMD educational programme organised by Northwood's Liberal and United synagogues attracted more than 2,000 secondary-age students, accompanied by their teachers, from some 40 schools in Harrow, Hillingdon and Hertfordshire. To meet the demand, satellite sessions were held at Bushey, Edgware and Borehamwood and Elstree United synagogues. Read more
The borough remembers those lost in the HolocaustHarrow Observer, 9th January 2012 CHILDREN and teachers who came together for contemplation and to plant a tree at a Harrow school welcomed a special guest. Anne Frank’s friend, step-sister and Holocaust survivor Eva Schloss visited Michael Sobell Sinai School to talk to pupils and teachers. Austrian-born Ms Schloss, 82, spoke about her memories of Anne and how they had been neighbours in the Dutch capital Amsterdam before being captured and sent to the Auschwitz extermination camp in Poland.
