A Cross Communal Jewish Primary School in South London?

The proposal for the South London Jewish Primary School is a cross communal and cross community, mixed school, run with a Jewish ethos, and dedicated to creating a stimulating educational environment in which children can grow to their full potential as responsible members of the Jewish community and of British society. The initiative is led by local parents, teachers and other interested parties. The school will be a Free School and if the application is successful it will open in September 2013.

In recent years there has been a significant increase in demand for primary school places in South London. Primary Schools in the London Boroughs of Richmond, Wandsworth, Merton and Kingston are being forced to expand. There has also been demand from Jewish parents with young children in this area for a suitable primary school to meet their needs so new premises are now being sought. The school will provide much needed school places as well as supporting and invigorating the South London Jewish community. The school will be autonomous and independent of any synagogue or other religious authority and will cater for pupils of all denominations and levels of religious observance as well as local non-Jewish pupils who, under the Free School Scheme are able to take up to 50% of places offered.
