| Liberal Judaism joins WJR's Big Bagel Campaign |
16th June 2011 Liberal Judaism’s Rabbis have thrown their support, and their stomachs, behind World Jewish Relief’s (WJR) annual Big Bagel fundraiser Members of LJ’s Rabbinic Conference held a Big Bagel event after their meeting on June 14, raising much needed cash for those desperately in need around the world. The Big Bagel 2011 campaign – which comprises brunches and bagel themed events at homes, synagogues, businesses and community centres – is aiming to raise in excess of £60,000. Around 100 bagel fundraisers are taking place up and down the country throughout June, with many Liberal congregations participating.
All the money raised is being utilised by WJR to transform the lives of primarily, but not exclusively, vulnerable Jewish communities, by reducing poverty and enabling lasting, sustainable change.
WJR are currently undertaking large scale projects across the former
WJR’s Director of Fundraising and Communications, Paul Stein, said: “I am thrilled that Liberal Judaism were able to add their support to The Big Bagel, helping to make this year’s campaign bigger and better than ever. “The organisation’s commitment to World Jewish Relief has made a huge difference to our projects around the world, allowing us to transform the lives of thousands of vulnerable people.” Liberal Judaism’s chief executive Rabbi Danny Rich added: “Liberal Judaism is delighted to be supporting WJR’s Big Bagel this year.
